Current Status of Accomplishment or Milestone: Pre-masters of the 11
CD's will be sent to NTIS on completion of artwork for the CDs (artwork is needed for each CD and for the jackets for the CDs). Extraction and summarization programs for Windows and the Macintosh completed.
Background: The Comprehensive Ocean-Atmosphere Data Set (COADS) represents the most complete collection of surface ocean data ever assembled and quality controlled. Release 1a,b contains the updated dataset for the years 1950-1995 in a new, expanded format. This dataset is vital for most researchers involved in broad-scale research on climate change in the ocean and its possible impacts on marine resources, such as the GLOBEC Program, as well as for researchers interested in local problems on the role of environmental variability on marine resources.
Purpose of Activity/Goal of Project: To re-sort the COADS Release 1a and 1b datasets into a form more suitable for creation of time series on microcomputers, create CD-ROM's containing the data, write an easy to use program for extraction and summarization of the data, and make these data readily available to marine resource researchers using microcomputers.
Description of Accomplishment and Significant Results: Pre-master's of the CD's are completed, and extraction programs for Windows and Macintosh are completed. Extracts from the database system are already being used in support of the PFEL GLOBEC NEP Project.
Significance of Accomplishment (e.g., to the Center, to Management, and to NMFS Strategic plan Goals): Will allow scientists the ability to have rapid access to the raw COADS Release 1a and 1b data, in order to make time series to examine the role climate change has on marine resources.
Problems: Artwork delayed due to personnel changes at PFEL.
