Current Status of Accomplishment or Milestone: Book manuscript is at publisher - will be out shortly.
Background: The Climate and Eastern Ocean Systems (CEOS) Program is an international collaborative effort studying the effects of climate change on eastern boundary current systems and their marine resources. The original contribution from the United States was funded by the Climate and Global Change Program, and included funding for an International meeting in September 1994 that brought together the CEOS researchers to share progress to date and plan activities for the future.
Purpose of Activity/Goal of Project: Publish the papers presented at the First International CEOS Meeting summarizing the first several years of activities.
Description of Accomplishment and Significant Results: Publication of book entitled "Global Versus Local Changes in Upwelling Systems". Contains many new results on the affects of climate change in the different upwelling systems and how these changes will effect marine resources in the upwelling area and the people who utilize these resources.
Significance of Accomplishment (e.g., to the Center, to Management, and to NMFS Strategic Plan Goals): Improved understanding of fishery-environmental linkages and the long-term effects of climate change on fisheries. Improved resource management and prediction.
