Complete Live Access Server for the
Fisheries and the Environment (FATE) Program
Current Status of Accomplishment or Milestone: Completed.
Background: The goal of the FATE program is to assist in resource and ecosystem management in the face of changing ocean climate. The program is a cooperative program over the various regions of NMFS. The focus of FATE is on the development and evaluation of leading ecological indicators and fishery performance indicators, their application to practical fishery management problems, and an ongoing need to publicize the program and communicate its activities within the FATE community, to fisheries scientists and resource managers, and to the public.
Purpose of Activity/Goal of Project: A Live Access Server (LAS) will be created and maintained at PFEL that will allow FATE indices to be subset, displayed, and downloaded as they are developed and become operational. Indices will be updated regularly through interactions with the other scientists involved in the FATE initiative.
Description of Accomplishment and Significant Results: The LAS can be accessed through the FATE homepage at http://fate.pfeg.noaa.gov .
Significance of Accomplishment (e.g., to the Center, to Management, and to NMFS Strategic plan Goals): As the central nexus for information and data for the FATE project, the LAS should assist in better resource and ecosystem management, thus building sustainable fisheries, and in assessing the effects of climate change on these resources.
Problems: At present only a limited number of time series are available on the LAS as the FATE Steering Committee has to decide on and clear the final listings.
